Kashmiri Phirans

The pheran, also spelt phiran, is the defining garment of a Kashmiri winter. It is long and loosely cut, with room to layer underneath and to move freely, and it has been worn across the valley for generations, at home and outdoors alike.

About Kashmiri Phirans

Our pherans carry three of Kashmir's embroidery traditions. Aari pherans, in white and blue, white and yellow, and white with red embroidery, bring a fresh, crisp look. A Sozni pheran in maroon shows the fine, closely set needlework the craft is known for. Tilla pherans, in wine, walnut brown and two shades of pink, are worked in metallic thread for a quiet shine, and a Tilla pheran set comes with a matching bottom.

These pieces belong to our Koshur Winter and Shalimar Winter collections, and several are in cashmilon, a soft, warm fabric suited to the cold months.

Every pheran is Free Size, cut loose enough to suit a wide range of body shapes and to layer comfortably over a kurta or sweater. Each product page lists the fabric and care for that piece.
